Billy and the Major Trauma Annual Report

We shared the story of Billy back in November [LINK] and it’s made it’s way to the Major Trauma Annual Report.

ABI are proud partners of this network, with several ABI leaders sitting as part of it, including our Chief Executive, Christine Howard-Brown.

The Trauma National Clinical Network aims to improve the outcomes for those who experience major trauma. The Network monitors major trauma, strengthens clinical practice and supports national quality improvement.

Thanks to Billy and his whānau for their willingness to be a part of this report which reflects the impact of major trauma and the ripple effect traumatic brain injuries have on whānau.

Billy’s mum commented:

“We never thought his story would have such an impact — if it helps just one other family, it’s worth it!”

March is Brain Injury Awareness Month which is dedicated to preventing injuries, supporting recovery and raising awareness of the invisibility of brain injuries and their impact on not just on the injured person, but their whānau too. Sharing stories like Billy’s helps many others experiencing life after a brain injury and provides hope that things can get better with specialist rehabilitation support.
